If you need help with your LA Healthcare Power of Attorney (POA), please call George Tull at 225-907-5280.
What is a Louisiana Healthcare POA? You (the Principal) declare that someone else (the Agent) can make healthcare choices on your behlaf, if you are unable to. You also hold healthcare providers harmless for relying on choices made by your Agent, and for revealing healthcare information to your appointed Agent. Every POA should be signed by both the Principal and Agent in front of a Notary Public.
How many copies do I need? I highly recommend that you have three original POA’s created. Give one to your Agent, one original to your primary doctor, and keep one for yourself.
Will the Healthcare POA be effective if I am unconscious? Yes, this mandate is durable, as all mandates are in Louisiana unless expressly stated otherwise.
Can I appoint more than one Agent? Yes. You can authorize numerous agents to act in the event that your primary Agent can not be reached.
Who should have a LA POA for healthcare matters? Everyone should have one! We never know when choices will be needed, so why not make arrangements now when you can? Instead of having your family fight over who the doctors listen to, why not state who should make your choices now while you are able to?
