The Louisiana Affidavit of Heirship is a form that is used at the Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) to transfer ownership of a vehicle when a loved one dies. The easiest way to explain it is with an illustration:
Let’s say that John owned a vehicle in his name, and that he then passes away. John left no will, his wife has already passed, and he has a surviving son name Jim and a daughter Sally. In order to prove that Jim and Sally are now the rightful owners of the vehicle, they would complete this LA Affidavit of Heirship, provide all of the documentation mentioned in the affidavit, pay the mentioned fees, and sign the form in front of a notary. Makes sense?
